The City Administrator is the full-time administrative officer of the City of Springdale serving under the direct supervision of the Mayor and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. He is charged with providing and maintaining the essential City services through the efficient and effective management and operation of the City. The City Administrator is responsible for the supervision of all City departments, preparation of the annual operating budget with oversight of the organization’s financial condition, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances within the City. He delegates responsibility and coordinates the activities performed daily by each department. The execution of City Council's policies is also the responsibility of the City Administrator
John J. Jones joined the City of Springdale as City Administrator in August 2018. Mr. Jones brings with him a great deal of experience by way of holding several different positions since beginning his public service career in 1985. Most recently, John served 12 years for the City of Trenton as City Manager and Safety Director. This follows eight years as Service and Safety Director for the City of Cambridge. Prior to his tenure in City Government, John spent 15 years with the State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority, serving as a Probation/Parole Officer, Parole Case Analyst, District Supervisor, and Regional Services Coordinator.
Mr. Jones earned a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Criminal Justice, both from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. A graduate of Glouster-Trimble High School in Athens County, he affectionately embraces his hometown area, and all seven of his siblings continue to reside in that area of Southeast Ohio.
Although he readily admits to enjoying every job he has been blessed to hold, John also appreciates his time away from the office. Favorite activities include working in his garden, cooking, hitting the gym, and traveling with his wife, Kim. Mrs. Jones is a 3rd grade teacher. The couple has two adult children: son Johnny and daughter Jenna. John is quick to point out that his pride and joy are his three grandkids Jordynn, Joclynn and Johnny III.
