BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES

NOVEMBER 9, 2006

 

President Doyle Webster called the Board of Health to order on November 9, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.

The Minutes of the October 12, 2006 meeting were approved as submitted.

 

Mayor Webster welcomed two Xavier nursing school students, Christy Benhase and Heather Steinkoenit who were observing the meeting.

 

CITY COUNCIL REPORT

Mrs. Harlow reported on the October 18 Council meeting. (1) A Public Hearing was held for LifeSphere regarding funding for a new telephone system; (2) a Resolution was passed accepting the rates and levies determined by the Budget Commission and certifying them to the County Auditor, and (3) an overview of the street projects within the City was given.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

REGULATION R2-2006ďA RESOLUTION OF THE SPRINGDALE BOARD OF HEALTH AMENDING BOARD OF HEALTH REGULATION R1-2005 WHICH ESTABLISHED FEES FOR FOOD SERVICE OPERATIONS, RETAIL FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS, VENDING MACHINE LOCATIONS, AND TEMPORARY FOOD OPERATIONS WITHIN THE CITY OF SPRINGDALE; AND ESTABLISHED FEES FOR FOOD SERVICE OPERATION AND RETAIL FOOD ESTABLISHMENT PLAN REVIEWS

 

Mrs. Mitrione gave the final reading of the Regulation.Mrs. Hart made a motion to approve, seconded by Mrs. Willis.There were no comments during the Public Hearing.The Regulation passed with three affirmative votes.

 

HEALTH COMMISSIONERíS REPORT

Pandemic Influenza Plan

Mrs. Mitrione presented the Pandemic Influenza Plan, stating that the next resident Newsletter will have an article on the plan.The Plan was used in the regional exercise on October 16-18.

 

 


Regional Exercise Update

Mrs. Mitrione gave an overview of the exercise.An After-Action Report will be e-mailed to the Board members.Limitations of the Emergency Operations Center at the Municipal Building were noted; primarily, the lack of radio and phone signals was a problem.

 

Smoke Free Ohio

Mrs. Mitrione reported that the passage of this Issue will create a new chapter in the Ohio Revised Code, and will be effective in early December.The local Health Department will be enforcing the rules and a smoke-free indoor air fund will be established.

 

Other Announcements

Mrs. Mitrione gave a listing of new or remodeled restaurants in the City.

A City blood drive will be held December 11-15.

The mammogram van will be at the Community Center on January 18.

 

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSEíS REPORT

Flu Immunization Clinic Update

Mrs. Hicks reported that 390 immunizations were administered at the clinic on November 3.With six nurses giving the shots, the average time was 2-5 minutes per client.Eighty-two doses have been given to employees and their families.A second clinic is scheduled for November 30, with 300 people on the waiting list.

 

Mrs. Hicks will be participating in the Great American Smoke Out on November 16.
