New Rumpke Guidelines for Collection of
Refrigerant-Containing Appliances
Rumpke's guidelines for accepting refrigerators and other freon-containing appliances (freezers, air conditioners, etc.) have been revised. In order to satisfy the federal safe disposal requirements, the stickers, tags, or other identifying marks on the appliance must also include a signed statement from the person from whom the appliance is obtained stating that all refrigerant that had not leaked previously has been recovered from the appliance. The signed statement must include the name and address of the person who recovered the refrigerant and the date that the refrigerant was recovered. Rumpke is required to keep on file a copy of such signed statement.
Therefore, effective immediately, all freon-containing appliances must have the Refrigerant Recovery Statement completed and attached to the appliance prior to collection. Forms are available at the Springdale Municipal Building or may be downloaded here: Download Refrigerant Recovery Statement. The form is also available on Rumpke's website (www.rumpke.com).
We suggest that residents keep a copy for their records and attach the original signed Statement to the appliance enclosed in a plastic bag for protection against the elements.
Thank you for your cooperation.
