Nuisance Animal Control Policy

As of January 1, 2010 the City of Springdale moved out of the Animal Control Business.

In the past, the city has covered the cost of removing the following nuisance animals from Springdale residents' homes or property: bats (only if found inside of the home), feral cats, raccoons and skunks. The policy was adjusted in October 2009 to limit the number of animals removed from the property by the city to a maximum of 3. The policy adjustment also included limiting the amount of time that a cage would be left at a resident’s home to a maximum of one week. A resident could use this service once per year.

As of January 2010, the city has adjusted the policy again.  The City will now be referring residents to animal control businesses for animal removal and will have several “Have a Heart” cages that residents can borrow should they want to trap an animal on their property.

The nuisance animal control program will continue to be administered out of the Health Department on behalf of the City of Springdale. Residents encountering nuisance animal issues will be directed to an animal control business and/or the City will have several “Have a Heart” type animal traps that can be loaned to a resident if they want to trap the animal on their own. These traps will be loaned out after the resident has read and signed “The City of Springdale Health Department “Have A Heart” Animal Trap Release and Waiver of Liability Form” and have read 1501:31-15-03 Nuisance Wild Animal Regulations (See links below). Residents borrowing traps must abide by the guidelines and rules set forth in the information provided to them. Residents who capture an animal on their own property may release the animal on their own property. If a resident traps any one of the following 6 animals: raccoon, skunk, opossum, beaver, coyote or fox and they want it removed from their property, they will have to call an animal control company to assist them with the animal removal.
