BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES

MAY 8, 2008

President Doyle Webster called the Board of Health to order on at 7:00 p.m.

The minutes of April 10, 2008 were approved.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Cincinnati North

Mr. Squires asked if the issues were resolved at Cincinnati North and was the air tested.

Mrs. Mitrione responded that the mold had been remediated. She said she referred the roof repair to the Building Department to follow up on. She said the air was not tested but they did an air scrub during the remediation.

The Boulevard

In response to a question about smoking at The Boulevard Mrs. Mitrione stated they have not seen anyone smoking but they have seen evidence of smoking. She said they have been fined $500.

6 Star Honor Award

Mrs. Mitrione reported there was an article in the Tri-County Press about the award. Mr. Squires said Panera Bread has their award prominently displayed.

NEW BUSINESS

New Employee

Ella Jergens, sanitarian, began working full-time this week. Betty Webb has started gathering food and pool samples.

HEALTH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT

Smoking Quarterly Report

Mrs. Mitrione said The Boulevard has had two incidents combined into one. She said if it is okay with the board The Boulevard will be called into another hearing in September. Mrs. Mitrione stated Cincinnati North has too many smoking rooms allocated. They are only allowed twenty percent smoking rooms.

School Inspections

Mrs. Mitrione said copies of school inspections have been included in the packets. She said the inspection forms are computer generated. She said Calvary Elementary is behind in safety plans and they are working with them on that. She said Heritage Hill had a few minor issues but nothing serious.

COOP Tabletop Exercise

Mrs. Mitrione said the Health Department held a tabletop exercise on the Continuity of Operations Plan. She said they learned that only one person in the building knows the HVAC system and we don’t know which plugs work off the generator when the power goes off.

Miscellaneous

Mrs. Mitrione stated there will be women’s health screenings at The Vineyard Church on June 14.

Mrs. Mitrione reported they had a complaint about meat hanging behind a store. She said that has been taken care of.

NURSE’S REPORT

Flu Vaccine

Mrs. Hicks stated that the Ohio Department of Health wants to use money for the Vaccines for Children program rather than for flu vaccine for people on Medicare. She said she met with a representative of Maxim Health Systems who provides flu vaccinations paid for by Medicare and insurance. She said they had a successful program through Hamilton County last year. She said this won’t cost Springdale anything and it won’t cost most people who have Medicare B and/or insurance. She said the City will need to purchase vaccine to cover those who don’t have insurance.

After discussion the Board decided to use Maxim to give the flu vaccine to those who are insured. The City will buy 200 doses of vaccine to use for the uninsured and under insured.
