Captain William Hafer

Captain Hafer began his career with the Springdale Police Department November 24, 1973. His interest in law enforcement came at an early age. His father was the founding member of the Springfield Township Police Department and was Chief of Police for 26 years. He has lived in this area all of his life. He grew up in Finneytown and spent most of his younger years there. He moved to the Mt. Healthy School District and graduated from Mt. Healthy High School in 1968. After a short period of time at the University of Cincinnati, He enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve serving 7 months on active duty, received an Honorable Discharge in 1975. Prior to joining the Springdale Police Department He worked for the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Assignment Commissioner for about 3 years. November 24, 1973 He started with the Springdale Police Department as a patrol officer. While a patrol officer He was assigned as an investigator for about 2 years. In June of 1984 he was promoted to Sergeant and in 1990 to Lieutenant. In 1999 he was promoted to the position of Assistant Chief of Police with the rank of Captain. During his career he has attended specialized training courses such as, Advanced/Technical Auto Accident Investigation, numerous criminal investigation classes, firearms instructor, just to name a few. In addition he has attended numerous supervisory and management classes throughout his career as a supervisor. He also a graduate of PELC, Police Executive Leadership College, administered by the Ohio Law Enforcement Foundation, Ohio Chiefs of Police. Over the years as an officer, he has received many letters of recognition, but the most memorable was his involvement with the apprehension of Clayton Lee Waggoner. Mr. Waggoner was only one of the few fugitives who on both the FBI and the United States Marshall’s top 10 wanted list at the same time. See the case summary on Waggoner located on this site.
