The City of Springdale, Ohio

 

The City of Springdale was first founded in 1806 as the Town of Springfield. In 1839, the town was officially incorporated as a village under that name. During the later years; however, original incorporation was lost and the village was then re-incorporated in 1959 under the name of Springdale. In 1971, the village became the City of Springdale.

 

The City of Springdale is located in northern Hamilton County. It is approximately twenty miles from downtown Cincinnati. It is bisected by I-275 and bordered by I-75. The City of Springdale is the home of a highly developed commercial and industrial community, as well as stable, well maintained residential neighborhoods. The population of the city as of the 2000 census was 10,563, but boasts a daytime population of more than 60,000.

 

For the City of Springdale, its residents, and its employers, the result is a diversified, balanced and dynamic local economy supported by nearly equal parts of manufacturing, retail and service industries. With the City limits encompassing a geographic area of just under five square miles, many residents and visitors alike express their amazement at the breadth and scope of services available or even merely what a beautiful city it is to walk or drive through.

 

The City of Springdale has a charter form of government. It is managed by a City Administrator. That administrator is appointed by the Mayor and serves as the City’s Chief Administrative Officer. The current City Administrator is Cecil W.Osborn. The Assistant City Administrator is Derrick Parham.

 

The City’s electoral process is non-partisan. Under the Charter, the Mayor is Springdale’s senior elected official, and serves as the directly elected Chief Executive of the City. Springdale also has an elected Clerk of Council/Finance Director, and a seven member City Council. Three of the Council members are elected at large, and four are elected from districts. The Council selects a President of Council from its own ranks to preside at meetings. The current elected officials of the City of Springdale are as follows:

The City of Springdale employment is governed by the State of Ohio Civil Service Rules. This applies to all employment in all branches of public service that are not legislative, judicial or military. The Civil Service Commission and Civil Service Review Board consists of three members. Those are David Strange, Thomas Goins and Anthony Potts.
