Citizen and Police Officer Challenge Coins

In 2006 our agency began to research and design two distinct Challenge Coins to be awarded for excellence in policing and related community service issues.

A Citizen Challenge Coin, is issued to citizens that are nominated by a representative of the department who in some way, serves the community in a positive way. The description of this citizen coin has our department's badge on one side, surrounded by our four core values of Integrity, Commitment, Professionalism, & Cooperation. On the other side is a quote, "There is never a wrong time to do the right thing", surrounded by our department's motto of "Excellence in Law Enforcement"

The Law Enforcement Challenge Coin, is issued regularly to police officers that have distinguished themselves in the performance of their duty through excellent police work. One the one side is our department's badge, surrounded by our four core values of Integrity, Commitment, Professionalism, & Cooperation. On the other side is a quote, "Excellence is not a quality that is simply attained, it must be earned. It is achieved through a commitment and a dedication to do the best one can. It is an accomplishment to be admired and respected"; and is surrounded by our department's motto of "Excellence in Law Enforcement".

Both coins are cast in the traditional Police Blue representing the thin blue line that places the law enforcement officer between order and anarchy in our society. Trimmed in both silver and gold, the traditional badge of both the police officer and command officer.

The design is a cooperative effort from many within the department that submitted thoughts, sentiments, and sayings; as to how we could best award both from within our department and those outside the department those that help us accomplish our mission.

These prestigious challenge coins are awarded within a booklet, police blue in color, with gold lettering. A personalized note is placed in the folder, describing the merits of the awarded challenge coin. Also a description of a true Law Enforcement Champion is noted, stressing the core values of Integrity, Commitment and Professionalism.
