Neighborhood Watch
Currently there are 6 neighborhood watch groups 4 residential and 2 at apartment complexes.
5 groups meet monthly and 1 every other month.
Minutes from each meeting are sent to the Chief who forwards them to other City officials.
Law Enforcement Expo
Expo is held the end of Police Week every year at Tri-County Mall.
Initial preparation begins in January involving discussions with mall management.
Anywhere from 11 - 16 departments participate; depending upon how much available space there is on the first floor of the common area.
The event runs the entire weekend and includes displays of police vehicles and equipment, literature and pamphlets on a host of topics, Firearms Training Simulator when available, giveaways, and officers available to speak to the public. Up until 2006, a 5k race was a part of this event.
Safety Town
Involves educating 4 - 5 year olds in traffic, pedestrian, bus, and bicycle safety as well as dealing with strangers. It is held in a mini-city type setting on the grounds of Tri-County Mall.
Bike Safety Program
Residents are able to register their bicycles and receive a free bicycle helmet and flashing light to put on their bike or wear on their person. The program is held on various weekends in May and June at neighborhood parks and complexes throughout the city. In 2007, this program will fall under the auspices of Officer Marsha Bemmes, our DARE officer.
Safe Holiday Shopping
During the holiday season there is an increased emphasis on patrol, both uniformed and non-uniformed, in our retail areas. Additional officers are assigned to the shopping areas to target theft-related crimes and traffic problems. A media release is sent out so that the public knows we will be in our shopping districts and on the alert for those problems.
Springdale Police Retirees' Newsletter
The office creates and publishes a newsletter that is mailed to all of our retirees. The newsletter updates them about what has been happening in the department and in the city during the course of the year.
Abandoned and Unclaimed Vehicles
The police department assists any business in the removing of a vehicle that has been left on the business property for an extended length of time without permission of the business owner or property manager. A complaint is filed and the department attempts to notify the owner. If the owner fails to claim their vehicle, it may possibly be forfeited to the towing service.
Operation 911
Started in 2006, this program provides materials to anyone, particularly senior citizens, which allows them to document medical information so that it will be available to emergency personnel should the victim not be able to relay the information.
