Police Reserve Program
In 2002 the Chief of Police explored the feasibility of a reserve police program. This program is for officers who have recently retired under a State of Ohio retirement system. These officers must be currently certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council. Using retired officers brings a vast amount of police experience to the department. These officers are not to be used for patrol duties. They are used to assist at the police station with taking of walk in complaints/reports, fingerprinting job applicants, warrant investigation, subpoena service and other miscellaneous non-police errand type functions. This frees up our regular full time officers to be on patrol. Reserve officers also assist working off duty details. These officers provide many extra hours of residential patrol for our neighborhoods. They have proven extremely valuable during some of our major city activities.
The department currently has 4 reserve officers on staff. Officer Dale Reatherford, retired Sergeant from the Hamilton County Park District, Officer Dave Ogden, and Officer Al Maupin, retired officers from the City of Springdale, and Officer Roger Petrey retired officer from Amberley Village Police Department.
