Police Auxiliary Program
In 2002 the Chief of Police explored the feasibility of an auxiliary police program. This program is for officers who have recently retired under a State of Ohio retirement system. These officers must be currently certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council. Using retired officers brings a vast amount of police experience to the department. These officers are not to be used for patrol duties. They are used to assist at the police station with taking of walk in complaints/reports, fingerprinting job applicants, warrant investigation, subpoena service and other miscellaneous non-police errand type functions. This frees up our regular full time officers to be on patrol. Auxiliary officers also assist working off duty details. These officers provide many extra hours of residential patrol for our neighborhoods. They have proven extremely valuable during some of our major city activities, 4th of July Festival, Bicentennial parade and activities.
The department currently has 5 auxiliary officers on staff. Officer Dan Ingram, retired lieutenant from Sharonville PD, Officer Bob Pieper, retired lieutenant from Hamilton County Sheriffs office and the City of Carlisle, Ohio and Officer Dale Reatherford, retired Sergeant from the Hamilton County Park District, Officer Dave Ogden, and Officer Al Maupin, retired officers from the City of Springdale. These officers bring over 150 years of police experience to our city.
