Kay Divis - Kay was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and she lived there until moving to Cincinnati in 1971. While living in Cleveland Kay went to Superior Elementary school, Kirk Junior High School and Shaw High School. She moved to Cincinnati in January of 1973 and started working for Union Township, Butler County, Police department (now known as the West Chester Police Department) as their first third shift dispatcher. She worked there until August of 1974 when she was hired by the Springdale police department. The night before Kay was to take the Civil Service Test for Springdale, the tornado of 1974 struck the Township and Kay was called in to dispatch at the Fire House on Cincinnati Dayton Road because there was no power at the Police Station. She left her home at 5:30 pm the night of April 3 to go to the fire house and stayed there until 5:00pm the next night. The test was scheduled for 7:00pm. When she went to take the test she said she could not remember what day it was let alone able to answer questions on the test but somehow she managed to take the test and pass it. Kay worked for Springdale for 30 1/2 years when she retired May 31, 2005. In September she went back to the police department to work part time. Kay enjoys taking photos, and does not have any specialized training except what she uses in the job at the police department. Kay’s kids are grown and married. She has 9 grandchildren ranging in age from 13 to 30, and has 5 great grandchildren with a 6th one on the way due in August. Kay plans on working at the PD as long as she can and someday retire completely.
